Cusacks is
a household name to Canberrans and its history is entwined closely
with the development of Canberra and the surrounding
regions.
Stan Cusack, the
founder of Cusacks, first commenced business in the Home Furnishing
Trade in 1918, in a small rented premise at Yass, with a limited
stock of Furniture and Linoleums.
Helped along by the return
of Servicemen from the Great War and their deferred pay, the
business prospered and by 1925 it was necessary to buy a block of
land in the main street of Yass, and erect a modern two floor
showroom. In 1926, Cusacks opened their first branch store at Tumut,
followed by a second at Leeton in 1929.
